Services And Promotions
The Society follows a stringent inspection policy. All animals offered at public sales undergo strict screening and all appendix animals are subject to inspection as a prerequisite for registration. The Society insist on a herd inspection for new breeders and for any other breeder where it is felt such an inspection is required. This ensures consistent high quality and standards within the breed.
A breeders' manual for the Sussex breed has been compiled for potential, new and established breeders and for use at judges' courses and farmers' days. This manual was very carefully edited and is of great value and assistance to any interested Sussex breeder.
The Sussex Cattle Breeders Society of SA hosted the first World Congress during the Rand Show from April 12 - 16, 1993. This prestigious event was attended by delegates from the UK, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Australia, Swaziland, Botswana, Namibia and SA, and proved to be a very successful and thought-provoking event. It has also laid the foundation for the formation of a world body to cooperate in promoting Sussex Internationally.
The Sussex Society has over the past few years been expanded its promotion and marketing campaign to the neighbouring countries. The presentation of beef information days in Botswana has proved to be worthwhile. 1994 also saw the first Namibian Sussex Championships attended by South African exhibitors, which proved to be a high point in Namibian Sussex history.
The Sussex Society also holds regular "Breed information days" focussing on porspective Sussex breeders and Agricultural students from the various Agricultural colleges and universities in SA. The Sussex Society aims to do more in the field of attracting "young, up and coming farmers" as well as "Development farmers" in the future.

Secondly, the policy of encouraging performance testing ensured that the Sussex breed was eligible for BLUP evaluation which will provide more accurate estimations of breeding values for future references.
